Moonlight Towers
Reflecting the light of Jesus Christ to our Austin neighbors.
Moonlight Towers have been an Austin artifact for more than a century. Thirty-one of these towers were installed in 1895 to provide lighting for the small town of Austin. They were made to cast a circle of light 3000 feet in diameter, roughly the size of a neighborhood.
Jesus told his followers in the Sermon on the Mount, “You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16
It is no accident that each of us lives in our particular dorm, apartment, or house. And there is no better place to reflect the light of Jesus than in our front yards, in our neighborhood park, in the common areas of our dorms and apartment. In fact, we have a humongous Smoker on a trailer for our Teammates for block parties, Halloween, the Superbowl, or whatever else you can come up with to meet your neighbors, build relationships, and demonstrate the gospel.
We will continue to develop tools to help people live as Moonlight Towers in their neighborhoods. But don't wait around for us, go love some people!
