TK Primer - Week 2 Day 1 "How to be Missional"

In reading the TK Primer it says, "If missional means "to go," incarnation is about "how" you go and what people see as you go.  It encompasses your posture, your tone, your motives, and your heart.  Incarnation is critical because it will eventually [impact] whether or not people will want to know you or your God."

I love the way Young Life states it: We have to earn the right to be heard!

Let's get right to it.  What is your posture?  In other words, how do people experience you?  What is the attitude of the body?  How are you expressing yourself to others, especially in nonverbal ways?

Perhaps in contrast, Jesus was viewed as a a friend to sinners...so what was His posture?

I think it is possible, particularly for some of my neighbors to think or feel like I don't really care about them or value them based on the reality that I don't spend time with them, invite them into my home, initiate a relationship with them, or serve them.  How powerful would it be if my posture was one of acceptance, and care, and service, and genuine interest.  I can see how mission alone could be dangerous and offensive (history can be a testimony to that).  But mission coupled with being incarnational...with being the body of Christ...his hands...his feet...His posture...now that can be transformational.

So what is our posture going to be?

TK Primer - Week 1 Day 7 "Make Them Come In"

Luke 14:23 "And the master said to the servant, 'Go out to the highways and hedges and compel people to come in, that my house may be filled.'"  If we are servants of the King we not only receive blessings from Him, but have the great privilege of passing that blessing on to others...compelling them to come in and commune with Him.

Today marks the end of week 1 in The Tangible Kingdom Primer...a day designated for communion.  In the intro Hugh and Matt explain Day 7 in the following way:

The last day of the cycle is a rest day or a sabbath.  This is a reminder to each of us that taking a break is a very biblical concept.  We challenge you to use this day in ways that are intentionally restful.  In other words, hang out with friends or family.  Don't multitask.  Don't overschedule.

Set aside time on your sabbath day for listening.  We tend to keep so busy that we couldn't hear God if he were shouting at us.  And he rarely shouts.  Stop for a little while and listen.

TK Primer - Week 1 Day 6 "The Cost of Going"

"Whatever the case, the word GO will cost you something.  It will require that you creatively look for the opportunities that God provides you to leave what's natural and self-serving in order to extend his love to others."

There is an exchange that takes place when we live on mission.  When we "Go" somewhere it means that we are NOT "Going" to a whole bunch of other places.  In other words it costs us something to live on mission.  So, the question - How much time per week are you willing to give to build deeper relationships with those whom God is sending you? - is a sobering question.  It's almost as if we are having to decide ahead of time what we are willing to pay.  We are being asked to be intentional about how we live our lives.  And we are being challenged to give up something "good" for something "better".  Because the back side of the equation is that living on mission far outweighs anything that it will cost us.

Hopefully, giving up our lives and paying the cost will create a desperation that drives us straight to Jesus.
